Preheat grill or grill pan, and broiler to medium-high heat. Arrange the split buns, cut side up, on a baking sheet and toast under the broiler until golden. Remove and set aside the top halves.

Grill the beef patties for 4 to 5 minutes per side, ensuring an even sear and desired doneness.

In a small saucepan, warm pizza sauce over low heat, stirring occasionally. Spread half of the sauce on the bottom halves of buns, then sprinkle with half of the mozzarella and layer with pepperoni. Broil for 2 to 3 minutes until the cheese is melted.

Set the cooked burger patties on the prepared bun bottoms. Top each with remaining sauce, mozzarella, and pepperoni. Return to the broiler until cheese melts. Place toasted top buns over burgers.
