Boil ziti pasta in salted water until al dente, then drain and set aside.

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add diced onion and bell pepper, sauté for 2–3 minutes until softened.

Add Italian sausage and ground beef to the skillet, cook until browned and no pink remains. Drain excess fat.

Stir in marinara sauce, drained diced tomatoes, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer for 5 minutes.

Add cooked ziti pasta to the sauce and meat mixture. Stir until evenly combined.

In a small bowl, mix ricotta cheese with the egg until smooth and fully blended.

Spread a layer of the pasta and meat sauce into the base of a 33 x 23 cm casserole dish. Top with a thin layer of the ricotta mixture. Repeat layers twice, finishing with a final layer of pasta and sauce.

Evenly sprinkle mozzarella and cheddar cheese over the top layer.

Cover dish with aluminum foil and bake at 175°C for 20–30 minutes.

Remove foil and grill (broil) on high for 2–3 minutes until cheese is golden and bubbling.

Allow to cool slightly, portion, and serve warm.
